Cost is $30 a month which is okay if you earn cash back but cash back has been restricted to purchases over $30 and not all purchases qualify. In the US this might be fine but in many countries with a weaker currency $30 is quite a bit, more than my weekly grocery spend. So essentially I never get cash back. Also, the cash back is restricted to just $300 so you also lose out on larger purchases if you are a big user. The ATM fees of 2% is way to high and the amount you can withdraw is way to low. But, it is not self-custody. A company called Rain keeps custody of it and, what is more, they can freeze your card. That simply does not appeal to me. But after using it a bit, I realized a lot of what Tangem promises about it being “self-custodial” doesn’t really hold up. First, the card itself is issued by a third party, which means they can freeze your funds at any time. That alone already makes the “self-custody debit card” claim questionable.
